Rural Women’s Innovation Hub

The MIGHTi Women’s Innovation Hub & Community Gathering Space, is located in rural Kafue, Zambia.

In February, 2023 we officially purchased five hectares of farmland in Mungu Village (Kafue, Zambia)! This tract will be the home of the MIGHTi Innovation Hub, housing both our demonstration farm and community gathering space. Purchasing land as a nonprofit is one of the largest roadblocks to getting started, and we are thrilled to have surpassed this milestone. We are now seeking support for the next phase of development, as our team in Zambia works hard to grow key relationships, skills, resilience, healthy food, and excitement at the Innovation Hub!

We have already begun to plant our regenerative farm by starting a small orchard and erecting a fence to keep out the village goats. We have enlisted community members in the process - Go MIGHTi Women! We are partnering with Build It International to survey our land for future boreholes and structures. The hub will include:

  • Regenerative Demonstration Farm.

This farm will produce traditional crops (vegetables/herbs), edible mushrooms, edible insects (grasshoppers/crickets), honey, medicinal plants, and fruit trees using regenerative methods and climate-smart strategies. The farm will also demonstrate use of feasible solar and water harvesting technology and serve as a science and technology resource center. We aim to connect rural communities to the broader scientific community, especially in-country experts.

  • Training Program.

Our on-site training center will offer culturally appropriate and context-specific classes and workshops (as well as necessary childcare) to enhance skills in literacy, entrepreneurship, and leadership. Topics will include agriculture, art and design, use of resilient and adaptive technologies (ex. rainwater harvesting, biochar, solar drying of fruits), nutrition, and health.

  • Participatory Research.

All participants will have the opportunity to take part in ongoing research projects to solve real world challenges their communities face.
